DONT WALK, in scarlet shade it said;
Grudgingly, we agreed,
Not for its sake, but for a car,
That did speed, and would have made us dead
By far, in its wake.
We looked each way, saw nothing, and did not obey
The DONT WALK man, who from crossing, would deter
Though when a few feet into the street
we were, said WALK you may, and gave in,
then flashed a DONT WALK discreet, to warn, or
As if to say, with a grin,
On the next corner, we will meet
Again.
